Sara, What disorder are you interested in. Hyperammonemia is typically only present in most of the FAO disorders in acute illness, and usually only in the first couple of years of life. Severe CPT2 and CACT deficiencies can have longer lasting issues with it. Acutely, treating the illness resolves the problem. If it persists, carbaglu is not typically effective. However, triheptanoinm (Dojolvi) will usually resolve the chronic problems in CPT2 and CACT deficiencies, You should discuss these possible therapies with your metabolic physician. Hope this helps.
