Obese individuals Seem to be Valuable in Estimating Energy Expenditure in patients with LCFAODs.

In a study from the Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International 2022 Educational Conference, predictive equations used to estimate resting and total energy expenditures, appear to be valuable in estimating that same expenditure in obese or overweight patients with long chain fatty acid oxidation disorders.

Treatment of LCFAOD includes reducing attempted catabolism of fatty acids requiring patients to follow a strict diet regiment low in long-chain fatty acids. Whether the resting and total energy expenditure is similar to the general population versus patients with LCFAODs in not clearly known.
